History
The Developing Equity-Minded Engineering Practitioners (DEEP) Center is funded by NSF grants (#2308531, #2308532), awarded to The Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois and the Mitchell School of Engineering at Morgan State University in August 2023. This is the first external grant awarded to the IDEA Institute.

Jumpstart DEEP Research Engagement between UIUC and Morgan State Engineering Faculty Project
The "Jumpstart DEEP Research Engagement between UIUC and Morgan State Engineering Faculty" Phase 1 project is awarded $50K by The Grainger College of Engineering Office of Research Strategic Research Initiatives.
2023Submission of NSF grant
Grainger Engineering's IDEA Institute submits the "Developing Equity-Minded Engineering Practitioners" grant proposal to NSF Broadening Participation in Engineering program (NSF 22-514) in collaboration with Morgan State University.
2022ABET Three Year Phase-In of DEI Criteria
The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) began its own three-year phase-in of the DEI framework, including assessing integration of DEI principles in curricula and faculty creation of equitable and inclusive learning environments.
2022Criteria Revised for Promotion and Tenure of Faculty
The Office of the Provost at the University of Illinois revised criteria for the promotion and tenure of faculty to include contributions to DEI take effect with a three-year phase-in of the policy. 2022The Institute for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Access (IDEA) is launched
The DEEP Center was co-created by members of the IDEA Institute.
